East Petersburg, PAWoodcarving Illustrated magazine, published by Fox Chapel Publishing, celebrates 20 years in publishing this year. The quarterly magazine, founded by Alan Giagnocavo, will celebrate its birthday at the Artistry in Wood Show in Wilmington, Ohio from October 14—15. The magazine’s editors will be handing out free magazines and complimentary cake, while welcoming some of the publishing company’s best-selling and talented woodcarving artists and authors.

Master woodcarver Lori Dickie, author of Quick & Cute Carving Projects: Patterns for 46 Projects to Carve in One Day, will be signing books at Booth Z. The publishing team is also proud to present Wayne Fowler, author of Woodworker’s Pattern Book: 78 Realistic Fretwork Animals, who will also be signing books at the table. An impressive cast of Fox Chapel woodcarvers will also be present at the show, and their books will be available for direct purchase and for retail partners.

The authors and their fine books to watch out for include, Caricature Soldiers: From the Civil War to the World Wars and Today by Floyd Rhadigan, 20-Minute Whittling Projects by Tom Hindes, Chip Carved Christmas Ornaments by Bruce Nicholas, Wildlife Intarsia Woodworking by Judy Gale Roberts and Jerry Booher, and the newly-released Making Tiny Toys in Wood by Howard Clements.

“We’re excited to have so many of our carving and scrolling authors together in one place!” says Woodcarving Illustrated editor Mindy Kinsey. “It’s a great chance for woodworkers to meet the authors, get their books signed, see some terrific artwork, and even get some tips. Plus, Artistry in Wood is one of the largest carving shows in the country, so there are plenty of carvers and scrollers to meet and opportunities to buy patterns and supplies for your next project.”

The editors of Woodcarving Illustrated are also proud to unveil and introduce the 2017 Woodcarver of the Year at the show. Janet Cordell, a legacy in the woodcarving world, will be honored for her beautiful carved busts, linden wood dolls, an impressive woodcarving career, and much more.
