Dogs Guide To Happiness

Stress affects everyone at times. In fact, according to the American Psychological Association 75 to 90 percent of physician visits are for stress-related ailments and complaints. Award-winning professor and international public speaker Garry McDaniel wondered why we are so stressed as humans and how we can remedy this crisis. After ten years in the mental health field, McDaniel surmised that we’re not always focused on the right things. “People want to be healthy,” McDaniel says. “But we’re not.” However, when he looked to the behavior of pet dogs, he realized there must be lessons to be learned from one of the happiest creatures on earth. Alongside his co-author Sharon Massen, a business professor and lecturer in her own right, the two penned The Dog’s Guide to Your Happiness: Seven Secrets for a Better Life from a Man’s Best Friend (February 2017) as a way offer practical advice and secrets on happiness from our canine companions.

The Dog’s Guide to Your Happiness: Seven Secrets for a Better Life from a Man’s Best Friend offers research, insights, and real-life stories about dogs and their people to provide seven essential traits for happiness through the eyes of our trusted furry friends. The book teaches these key attributes of dogs and applies them to our own lives: loyalty, communication, zest for play, unconditional love, forgiveness, positive attitudes, and life balance. In addition to moving stories, exercise and worksheets are also provided for further self-exploration and deeper thinking about the role of happiness in our lives.

The ultimate goal of The Dog’s Guide to Your Happiness: Seven Secrets for a Better Life from a Man’s Best Friend is to help people experience greater happiness. This book is for anyone who has ever felt rushed, stressed, and overwhelmed by daily demands and who wondered what simples steps could be taken to increase happiness and lead a more balanced and healthier life.

“If the happiest creature on the planet could give us advice to improve our lives—to be better workers, managers, parents, children, and friends—what would they say?” McDaniel asks.
