Harold is Considered the “Godfather” of caricature carving

Fox Publishing Author Harold Enlow

Harold has written twelve wood carving books and teaches 30-35 woodcarving seminars each year. He is a founding member of Caricature Carvers of America and a member of the National Wood Carvers’ Association, the Ozark Whittlers and Wood Carvers, and several other carving groups around the country. He’s professionally carved since the early 1960s and taught thousands of students. As one of the leading carvers in the industry, Harold has earned the “respect from students and fellow carvers alike for the quality of his publications, teachings, and the impact of his work has on caricature carving.” – Woodcarving Illustrated Magazine. Harold was selected as the Woodcarver of the Year by Woodcarving Illustrated Magazine in 2001.

Although he became interested in carving quite young, he started seriously carving when he was stationed with the U.S. Army in Okinawa, Japan, where he found a book in the base library by H.S. ‘Andy’ Anderson and was immediately hooked on caricatures. Humorous hill folks, which one expects to see in the Ozarks, are among Harold’s favorite subjects to carve. Except for 4 or 5 local seminars each year, Harold has now retired from active teaching. He and Elaine still live in Dogpatch, now know as Marble Falls.
